Primary School

Experience-oriented learning describes our approach to academics.  Tower Hill Primary school teachers believe that children learn best through active exploration.   Field trips, cooking, nature exploration and more enrich the academic experience.  We are a hands-on, learn by doing school.  Multi-sensory strategies are used to address the many learning styles of our students.

Kindergarten students must meet the cutoff age of their home district. Class size is limited to fifteen students with a certified head teacher and assistant teacher. First through third grade classes are offered when enrollment warrants.

Curriculum Highlights:
 

  •  Curriculum is integrated across all disciplines.  Reading, creative writing, grammar, math, science, social studies, art, music, Spanish, computer, cooking and gardening are blended to create thematic units.
  •  Curriculum is traditional in its emphasis on skill development in reading, writing and mathematics
  •  Reading is taught through phonological awareness
  •  Reading strategies include integrated-phonics/skill based instruction in combination with literature reading/discussion and writing.
  • Creative writing techniques are taught
  • Spelling, grammar and vocabulary are emphasized
  • Teaching the “Building Block Skills”, listening, study, communications, problem solving) is part of every-day school life.
  • “Learning by doing” teaching strategies are used
  • Music, art, computer lab, Spanish, cooking, library and gym round out our strong academic program.

    Tower Hill School is a non-profit Early Childhood Program licensed by the State of New Jersey, Department of Human Services, Bureau of Licensing, Division of Youth and Family Services.  Children of all faiths and races are welcome to attend.
